Shakira Is Making Deals

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Columbian pop-star Shakira has signed a ten years contract with the concert organizing company Live Nation, says The New York Times. The sum of this deal is worth of seventy/one hundred million dollars. Following an agreement  Live Nation shall give her the full range of services (so called 360 degrees contract) including album releases, concerts/tours, and selling of souvenirs.

Besides that, Shakira is still connected to the other contract agreement with the label Epic Records, which demands three albums from her – one in English, another one in Spanish, and hits collection. This tide is not going to allow Live Nation to release a musician’s new works.

Just for a reminder – Live Nation possesses a long-term contracts with Madonna, Jay-Z and U2. Previously it was rumoured that the company is planning to make a deal with The Rolling Stones, but it’s management had denied it.

Bad Company Is Reuniting

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

The English blues-rock band Bad Company is going to reunite in it’s original lineup to perform at a single concert, says Billboard. This show shall take place on August 8 at the Seminole Hard Rock & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. For the first time since 1999 the band will include vocalist Paul Rodgers, guitarist Mick Ralphs, and drummer Simon Kirke. Bassist Boz Burrell who died in 2006 should be replaced by Lynn Sorenson who used to co-work with Rodgers in his solo projects.

This concert is dedicated to the death of an infamous lawyer Steve Weiss who represented the band in 1970, Led Zeppelin and the record label Swan Song Records. A show should be recorded and later released on DVD.

Bad Company was founded in 1973 producing twelve studio albums during their long muisc carreer. Together with Paul Rodgers the band lasted until 1982, and between 1998–2002 he had partially cooperated with his former collegues. Today, Rodgers is doing some work with musicians from Queen.

Nokia Keeps On Spreading Music

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Recently the phone company Nokia had made a deal with the Warner Music Group to spread music tracks possessed by this label using Come with Music service and Nokia’s music store, says Reuters. This agreement allows Nokia to get an access to the new variety of musicians like Bjork or Sepultura.

It is expected that Comes with Music, which allows Nokia phone holders download music without any limitations for one year will start by the second half of 2008, notes AFP. Phones that incorporate Comes with Music service are a little bit more expensive than the others in purpose to fulfill prices set by the record companies.

Comes with Music is already supported by the Universal and Sony BMG labels. Right now there are no facts on EMI’s agreement to join the major music sharing project, even though back in March this company had voiced it’s intentions to do it.
